Artist's Studio
A whimsical straw bale art studio in Cotati, California

This art studio was built collaboratively with Clark Mitchell, a nationally recognized pastel landscape artist and teacher, and his designer, Lance Cerny. The building's clerestory windows face north, indirectly day-lighting the spacious central room. The second story tower opens to a south-facing deck with also acts to shade the south elevation from direct sunlight.
The building incorporates a radiant heat, colored concrete floor with a very efficient thermal envelope, for low-cost, year-round comfort. The building's thermal mass and operable clerestory windows will provide a cool interior temperature on even the hottest summer days.
